CPU. How fast can I go?

I have an old Dell PowerEdge 2300 server. It has dual Slot 1 Pentium III 450Mhz on a BX chipset MB. The MB has a selectable DIP switch for CPU clock freq from 333Mhz to 450Mhz. It is set at the highest which is 450MHz.

My question is can I upgrade to a 900Mhz CPU leaving the DIP at 450MHz??

Will this work?? What options do I have.

Thanks,

Marc

i seriously doubt it.

for the price of a pair of 900's (100mhz fsb) you can get a nice athlon xp system that would blow away even dual 900's.

The highest 512KB P3's were the Katmai's, P3-600 / 512KB. You could probably put in slot1 P3 1Ghz/100Mhz/256KB, but I highly doubt its officially supported.

You should be able to put in a Powerleap 1.4 Ghz Celeron for about $150 which comes w/ an adaptor for slot 1's

You can buy a 2.0+ GHz Athlon XP with $150.
