This problem is rather hit and miss....my details of my rig are in my sig. But when I seem to restart my computer or just turn it off and turn it right back on and my computer is getting ready to POST I get an error message telling me that my "CPU Host clock is failing! blah blah blah..." So I then enter CMOS to verify my clock setting and everything is correct. I exit and save CMOS and the computer restarts and boots just fine. If I get the error message and just hit F1 my computer continues to boot up normally and everything is just fine.
Now I have recently flashed the BIOS on my mobo as it didn't support the Barton core. Everything went fine during the flash and I wouldn't think that was my problem.
I checked on AMD's website to ensure my motherboard is compatible with the 2500+Barton and it is.
I have tried putting things back to default settings and that didn't work. I have cleared my CMOS. I have put in my old processor (2000+ Palomino) and everything ran hunky dory.
I have tried reflashing to the old BIOS, which just shows an "unrecognized processor" but I still get the same problems. So I reflashed to the latest BIOS and stuck with that.
In my mobo manual there is a setting called "Watching Dog Timer" which basically automatically resets your clock speeds if you have a failed overclock. Well I disabled this and I seem to have gotten the CPU Host clock message to go away on my 2500+. So that tells me that my mobo thinks I am overclocking??
I am running AwardBIOS version 6.0 I believe. The BIOS string I downloaded I believe is (6A6LYPAD) or (KT400-8235-6A6LYPADC-00) I think. And the date of the release is 7-15-03. I did it through the windows program/utility "Magic BIOS" that came on the disc with my motherboard.
Now it seems like my main problem is that when in windows if I try to restart my computer shuts down, everything stays running but the damn thing doesn't restart. It just stays there running with a nice big black screen in front of me. So then I am forced to do a hard shutdown. I then try and start things back up and same thing....just keeps running but no display. So then I have to clear the CMOS and start up and then it works but recognized the processor as a 1900+ which tells me it didn't like the clock speeds of the 2500+ which I don't flippin' understand.
Please Help me. I am getting severly pissed off now, lol.
Is my CPU junk?(I wouldn't think so if everything is running just fine when up and running...)
Any suggestions or leads in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
