CPU Help....

I bought a Dell PowerEdge 400SC 2.4 Ghz, 800FSB w/HT..

Would that be a 2.4C? The one that everyone can overclock? How much should I ask for it if I sell it?

I'm thinking about replacing it with this...

"Intel Pentium 4 3.0EGHz 800MHz 478pin 1MB Prescott CPU Retail" I can get this for 215 bucks shipped.

Since I am not going to O/C because Dell BIOS doesn't really allow for it. Would the Stock Heat Synk/FAN run fine for my needs? The case has 1 temperature controlled 92mm fan.

Since it has a 875P MoBo it should be a nice upgrade.

Thanks Guys!

I am not sure if the 2.4C and 3.0E use the exact HSF (I think the 3.0 has a copper base), but I'm sure at stock speeds it will be fine. Prescotts also run a little hot, if you want to be safe spend $30 and get a Zalman, you'll have to get rid of that awful Dell plastic tunnel system thing.

Get a 3.0C for around the same price. It is faster and has fewer issues.

Hmmm, I thought a 1 meg cache would be better?

So, you think I should stick to a 512K? 3.0C, Runs faster eh? I'll look into it.

Thanks!

A P4C runs between 200 & 400 mhz faster than the "equivalent" speed Prescott, along with running quite a bit cooler. The only thing that the Prescott does faster is encode/edit video. That's the only time that having more cache helps the Prescott's.
