OK, let me explainwhat that means...

my friend left his computer off for a week or two while on vacation, he came back to find that it shut off automatically when he started it, sometimes posting, sometimes not, sometimes even making it to Windows loading.

well, his cpu was overheating because one of the 2 clips that holds the heatsink onto the cpu broke.

does anyone know where to find a replacement for that? Its the black plastic piece that goes all the way around the heatsink and holds it down firmly onto the CPU, screwed into the motherboard.

lmk if this is unclear

ASUS motherboard, i think socket A, not sure which board exactly.

Your best bet would probably be to contact Asus. To my knowledge, these are generally not sold by resellers.

Hit up your local computer services. The might have one lying around that they're willing to get rid of. I got a new backplate for my mobo that way.

If you are talking about the pentium 478 retention device, you can get a replacement from Text for $3.50 (shipping is added). You'll have to remove your motherboard because it comes with a brace on the bottom of the motherboard that the retention device is screwed to. They probably have the AMD devices also.

I messed up on that link, it should be Text
