i used to have a volcano 11+ and my temps with it @210fsbx11 @1.75 were 49.5/50 degrees c , my smart fan 2 just stop working so i returned it.. so i decided to start trying to mix and match things.. so i got a thermaltake silent boost hsf. the heatsink on this setup looks much better than that of the volcano.. reminds me of a thermalright. so what i did was i took the silent boost hs and laped it with 2000 microfine sandpaper for an hour 1/2 till it was like a mirror, put it on and mounted a new smartfan 2 cause i wanted the better airflow that the silentboost fan couldnt put out... i must say i was amazed by the results.. i now run idle @ 45 degrees c oc'd and 47 load..@ the same overclock.
so now i tried a couple of other things,, i have a coolermaster areo 7+ and wanted to see if the blower fan would cool better than the smart fan 2.. well i did that and to my suprise... the temps raised 3 degrees c. so now i know that the smartfan 2 is better cooler. now im trying to decide if the coolermaster heatsink is better than my silent boost.. its a skived fin design, thats why im curious. im just trying to get the best cooling from what i got without spending more money right now. if anyone has any info on the hs let me know..
