Just built a new system using
A7V266 with xp1700+
256meg ddr
Geforce 2 ti/500 XP
zoom fax modem 56meg...

It will pop up in the bios and say the cpu hung at the speed and is now opperating in safe mode.. which basically switches the FSB to 100 instead of 133.... so....... which nocks the speed from the 1.4 to 1100 mhz.... any info on how to solve this problem fix it etc...... it MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!

It did this once after I had the computer off all night and turned it on the first time in the morning... so i'm 95% sure it's not a heat issue....

have you tried a bios flash? I know the kg7 required a bios flash to fully support the xp chips.

hopefully, but if it isn't, how many watts is your psu? and is it on the amd approved list? How old is it also?

definitely enough power, but just to be sure do you have another psu you could switch out too if the problem persists?

I had this problem with my a7v. The only difference being it would back off the memory timing to 100 mhz from 133 since the a7v didn't support 133 fsb.

Anyhow what fixed it for me was to set the jumpers from manual to auto for the overclocking feature. In other words when I used the jumpers to overclock the cpu this happened to me quite often. when I went back to auto detect cpu speed problem went away.

Well I know it is not the same but it is something else to check.

Hope this helps
