CPU gaming question.

I currently have a e7200 2.53ghz 3mb cache. I oc'd it to 3.04ghz .

I'm flying next week to the US so I would like to know as far as gaming goes, should I upgrade to the new "i" cpu's?

I have a 4870, i play at 1920x1200 resolution. I will probably get a 5850 when I come. so will my cpu be a bottleneck for future games at that high of a resolution?

if I get a new cpu i would have to upgrade mobo+ram as well. so I want to know if its worth the trouble and cost.

Upgrade for the future in the future. Once you get a game which is unplayable on your current rig go ahead and upgrade then.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised at my i7's performance. Having lots of slots for RAM was another unexpected benefit.

There was a good article awhile back on the forums that basically showed that as long as your cpu is moderately fast which yours should be it won't make a major difference to upgrade the cpu at that resolution.

I'm running an e5200 oced to 3.4 with a 5850 at the same resolution and it does great. This is coming from a 4850. All my games play great minus crysis but it still plays very well

Offset the budget on an i7 platform and dump it into a 5870.

Gamers dont require super modern processors.
4 threads should keep you happy for a long time, unless your an encoder, or cruncher.

Save the money on a platform upgrade, and dump it into a Q series processor + the highest video card you can get your hands on.

Unless you are not having a problem with performance now, you could just try the video card, but then your CPU MIGHT me the bottleneck.

I think I could of dropped a 5870 into my old rig and held off for a while on rig 2.
