Boss bought a S5000PSL which supports cpus with a FSB of up to 1333MHZ. Boss then proceeded to purchase a very expensive E5472 which runs at 1666MHZ FSB. When we put the cpus in the mobo I get no BIOS post, just a blank screen. I know the mobo works well because we put in some FSB matched cpus and everything works perfectly.

Is there a way to get the faster E5472 chips to work with our existing mobo?

Yea I saw the compatibility list as well (after the cpus were already purchased).

Can someone explain why the 1666mhz fsb cpu cannot be run at a lower speed? Is that a fundamental rule that can't be broken? I'm a little in the dark here.

Because Intel made it that way. Either by hardware limitations on the components used to make the board, or by design. Either way, the 5472 is not supported. You will either need to upgrade the board, or use different CPUs
