CPU for music production

Hello all,
I'm going to upgrade my comp soon and i'm wondering which processor i should get. I mainly use the comp for music production with fruityloops and cooledit pro software and i put loads and loads of effects on tracks which caines CPU time.
I also game a bit (unreal tournament 2003-2004, max payne 1 & 2, hitman 2 and contracts) but the production is my main priority and I also use it for the usual office stuff like word, excel, access.
My main choices are getting a p4 Northwood 3.0 GHz then overclocking it to 3.6 or A64 3000+ 2.0GHz. What would be the best choice and can the A64 be overclock well
