You don't want to start that, next thing you know, someone will say that the Pentium G3450 is 90% as fast as the FX-9590. 😉

You are right, I don't want to start that. 🙂 If anything I think the benches in the OP show that the CPU isn't *that* important for a gaming system (within reason, and obviously that is overgeneralizing, but on the whole I believe it to be true).

Celeron G1840 did pretty good job, considering its a <$50 chip. 🙂
That would be my choice for a cheap gaming system, coupled with ~R7 250/GTX750 or equivalent dGPU.

Still it is amusing to see how well the G3220 (G3240) (a < $100 part) compared to an I7. Also it seems like I5 is the sweet spot.
I got noticeable hitching (and lower fps) playing Far Cry 3 on a G2020 compared to either a 4GHz i7 920 or my setup in the sig, all using the same 7970GE.

this game seems to be a mess with the Pentium, but to be honest FC3 is a mess anyway,

at the same time in a game more depedent on 2 threads the AMD CPU shows problems

cheap CPUs are never quite there I guess, i5s are not that expensive anyway.

Only looking on average frame rate doesnt show the whole picture. Dual core(Dual thread) CPUs are not adequate for most newer games and things will only get worst.

I agree. My brother's i3-2120 is unbearable. I should have given him my old 2500k and raised him out of that ghetto. Hyper-threading does nothing. :\

HT helps a lot dual cores in some games like BF4.

but sure, i5 is much better.

Quite the performance boost going from fx4300 to fx6300. Not so much going to fx8350. Kind of old and not well threaded games on the list.

Also, as previous posters noted, would love to see min fps aswell, or 99% frame time or something like this.

Great work!
