CpU for 3D Rendering

Probably in the wrong forum, but...

Not really. C2D CPUs are getting a little long in the tooth, at least if you're using them for anything demanding, and 3D rendering tends to like lots of cores. Taken together, it's a less than ideal choice - if it's the primary use of that machine, I'd sooner go for a a quad- or hex-core AMD if you can find one.

You can get some idea of the performance difference here

What is your budget? Even a cheap Phenom II x4 will destroy a C2D when it comes to rendering for the simple fact that it has 4 cores. A Phenom II x6 can be had for a pretty decent price as well. A current gen i5 or i7 would be the fastest, but also cost quite a bit more.

no, that C2D is very bad for 3d rendering you need as many thread as you can get, get amd 8 core bulldozer or intel 2600K.
