I have a question for u guru's out there.

Im putting together an amd 64 system and was wondering if i really need to buy a thermaltake venus 12 or something similar. I wont be overclocking or anything, so i was thinking i can save the 30 bucks and just go with the stock heatsink and fan.

The retail, stock hsf will suffice for any processor that is not overclocked. Now in terms of how quietly or how extra cool it will run, that's another story. I've used a stock hsf on my amd64 and there were obviously no problems. I don't really think there will be a situation where you need better cooling if you do not overclock.

You should be fine with stock hs and fan. If you are at all going to oc, then I would go with the venus.

See you don;t need any After Market cooling. It all depends on your System case to, if you have big case with lots of air flow, then you don;t need after markey HSF.
