CPU fan

I am about to order a retail Athlon Xp 2000+. Is the fan that comes with it good enough? I am not going to do any overclocking.

Also, is there a pricecut coming soon(next 2-3 days) for the XP CPUs?

If you order an OEM 2000+, typically you need to buy a HSF for it and only get a ~90 day warranty. If you purchase retail boxed, it comes with an approved HSF & 3yr warranty thru AMD. The retail HSF is fine for the non-o/c'er.

Possibly, but it wont be to big of a price cut really.

I think John is spot-on with his recommendation. The OEM cooler is fine and a substitute for your planned use is not needed.

Will there be a price cut on Athlon's coming up - you can count on it! That's the nature of the beast in this business. 6 months from now a whole new crop of motherboards, video cards, and cpu's will be in place with a whole lot more on the drawing board for introduction in another 6 months etc. etc etc and this is being conservative!

yeah, I know that my computer 6 months from now will worth almost half of what it worths today. And usually the price of CPUs drop by 2-5 dollars every 3-4 days.
But sometimes (e.g when a new processor is announced) the price can drop 15-25 dollars in just 2-3 days. I am asking because I am about to order the processor on monday, but i would wait for 2 more days if such a pricecut is expected.
