I know this should go under cooling, but since this forum is viewed more than the Cooling one, and i'm so impatient, here it goes..

Lately i've been looking to overclock about 10% and don't have the money for a watercooling rig, so i'm looking for a good fan. One that's not too loud, but will give me awesome cooling for a 10% overclock. Can anyone recommend any? (Technically this is a hardware issue, lol.)

It would help if you were more specific. What CPU are you trying to overclock? What HS/Fan does it use now?

Trying to overclock a P4C 3.0ghz (Socket 478) about 10-15%. No Price Range whatsoever. It currently uses the market HS/Fan that it was supplied with.

My favourite that fits all current CPUs is the Zalman CNPS-7000A. I best air cooler available if you want a quiet system.

ThermalRight heatsinks paired up with a quiet fan are also good choices. But valuewise, I think the Thermalright SilentBoost is the best as it's relatively cheap and includes a Panaflo fan.

Yeah I was looking into the Zalman CNPS-7000Cu (I think that's the model name) but I heard they're really heavy and twice the maximum weight. I'm thrown off by this but I heard it's the best thing before Watercooling.

Ditto that.

OK, there are two versions of the Zalman CNPS7000A. The all-copper 7000A-Cu or the copper-aluminum 7000A-AlCu
Their cooling has been rated as almost identical, so it makes sense to get the CNPS7000A-AlCu as it is not only weighs less (within recommended Intel P4 spec) buts costs less too.

It's not as bad for P4s as the cores are not as delicate as the AthlonXP ones. Just don't plan on shipping the computer or something with the HSF on. It'll be fine if you aren't transporting it, roughly.

Yeah these fans look like they do the best job. But will it be enough to do a 10-15% overclock? I neglected to mention I also have an Asus P4P800-Deluxe motherboard, if it makes a difference.

It'll be enough if your CPU is up to it.

Yes, motherboard does matter. But I'm pretty sure it'll fit. You should check Zalman's compatibility list on their website. I recommend buying the AlCu version. It's lighter, performs as well and is cheaper.

I use the AlCu and my o'clock is about 20%.

Yes, the AICu is at my local vendor. I'll definately look into it. I just hope it's a cooler that will work with newer processors too. Thanks for your input everyone.

Why did you buy an Intel if you wanted a decent OC???? :D Why didn't you just throw your money in the toilet?

I've seen lots of decent reviews of P4c's overclocking. I'm partial to AMD at this point in time, as my K6 and Athlon's from the past were very dissapointing. Intel seems to cover all the bases. Maybe i'll consider an AMD when their performance becomes steady and their 64 bit is proven technology, aswell 64-bit applications are the norm.
