CPU Fan: Up or Down?

Howdy,
What's the best way for maximum cooling to orient the CPU fan, up (blow air away from the CPU) or down (blow air onto the heatsink)?

Thought it was down, onto the heatsink & CPU, but recall reading differently somewhere.

All depends on the design of the heatsink. Try it both ways.

Note that it's an Alpha 8045.

If its an Alpha 8045 then the fan is apparently supposed to be 'sucking' or blowing away from the heatsink itself.

For my 8942, it is supposed to be sucking the air off of the heatsink.
*Can't resist* So you want to suck, not blow. 😀
