Curious if anyone's ever had a problem where the CPU fan was stuck at a single, low speed before independent of temperature or load. Like the auto-fan speed program wasn't working.
Just yesterday, my over 5 year old Intel i5 750, stock clockspeed, Turbo on, stock fan (rest of system is stock, no soft/hard fan controller) decided to stay at ~1070 rpm even when CPU temperatures hit the upper 80 C range (one core hit 89 C). according to both CPU-Z and HW Monitor -- both min and max values. I was running Company of Heroes 2 for a few hours. AFTER rebooting, it still stayed at a constant rpm +/- 30 rpm around 1070 rpm no matter the load (e.g. opening games, encoding a video).
Today, like almost every day before that, EXCEPT a handful of times in the past 5 years when I was monitoring, it ran normally: fan ramped up/down depending on load. I ran CoH 2 again, max temp was 61 C on one core -- fan speed 0 to 2000 rpm (0 because of pulsing?). Max it normally goes when it's ~30 C ambient indoors is ~85 C -- 21 C ambient yesterday.
So, it's happened before, just very rarely. Is this a once in a while glitch like my system BSODing once every few months?
