cpu fan stopped spinning on ASUS A7N266

I installed a Cendyne DVD burner. It was a bit larger than the liteon cdrw. The dvd burner pushed against the chassis fan connector and bent it.

Now the CPU fan stopped spinning. The computer shutdowns due to hot cpu.

Is there anyway to fix this or is the board gonna need to be replaced?

thanks,

mike

That's odd, why would the CPU fan header stop working when the other header got bent...? Hmm. There is a simple solution, however: power the CPU fan directly from the PSU using a 3-pin-to-4-pin adapter and you're set.

thanks for the tip on the 3 pin to 4 pin connector.

I remember reading somewhere about this board (a7n266) being screwed up when you connect the cpu fan to the chassis fan header. However, I can't find the information anywhere now! I have looked in the manual but no luck.

Now when I go into bios, the cpu fan and chassis fan show "N/A" next to them.

I hope the 4 pin to 3 pin adapter works. I'm thinking i read somewhere that the bios needs to sense the cpu fan rpm for the board to work properly

Some motherboards do freak out if they can't find an RPM signal on the CPU_FAN header. I don't think yours is one of them. Basically, if it will POST and begin booting without any fans on the CPU_FAN header, then it's not that kind of board and it doesn't matter. :) Soyo's are the boards that seem to cause the no-fan/no-POST problem for most people.

Well, he did say he was using his computer with the CPU fan STOPPED. So, I'd say his motherboad is NOT one of em. But, Maybe his motherboard is the type to let him boot up for about 15-20 mins and then does a check for FAN RPM. And then if RPM is <= 50 shut down system in 10 mins.

Yeah ok, sure...Fine...
