I just got my system setup and I was making some adjustments in the BIOS and noticed
that my CPU fan reading was "0 RPM". I was staring right at it watching it spin. Is this normal? Also, what is too high of a core temp. I've read people get up to like 42-43 deg w/ out problems. Is that the high end? thanks in advance :)

Which motherboard?

Mine is Abit KT7, and the fan plug closest to the CPU is not the one that shows up as "CPU" on the VIA monitor...the closest set of pins is apparently for the "system fan" and is where I plugged the CPU fan into....this one changes speed when the CPU one does.

Apparently the plug right next to the first one, just slightly farther away is the CPU fan

I've got the same mb. I've got it plugged into the same pinset as you. I'm pretty sure that's what it said in the proc documentation. Anyway, thanks, I was worried for a moment :)

How accurate are the readings for fan speed? I also have an Abit KT7, the fan I had before was a crappy one so I got something a little better (Coolermaster 6H51), which according to the website has a 4600 RPM fan. However, motherboard monitor only indicates 2700. The reading for the case cooler is 3900, I thought they were all 4500 too. What gives? Should I plug the fans to the power supply connectors, instead of the motherboard, as if the mobo is not supplying enough voltage? Or should I disregard those readings?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how accurate they are, but all my readings have been over 5000 RPM w/ the stock HSF for my Duron
