CPU Fan not always on

Hi,

I have trouble with my new build. I have an e8400 with a gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

When the smart fan setting is enabled, the cpu fan sometimes stops but never turns on again.

For example, when the temperature reaches about 20C the fan stops. Usually, when the temperature hits 25C, the cpu fan kicks in. But I have observed that sometimes the cpu fan never turns on again. The CPU was at 45C and the fan was still off.

Rebooting seems to wake up the fan but I was feeling insecure so I turn off smart fan and now the cpu fan is on all the time and never had a problem again with it.

Is it my board or smart fan is not smart at all ?

I still use the latest official bios not the beta one for
wolfdale.

thanks for your opinions !

It's usually a good idea to list all of the components in your system when asking for help. Sometimes the problem might come from an unexpected place.

Sorry,

here's my components :

Antec Sonata III
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Intel e8400
2x1Gb OCZ Platinum XTC rev.2 PC2-6400
Palit HD2400 Pro
WD Caviar 120 Gb IDE
Pioneer DVR-212D

thanks

i duno thats weirds, i have the same mobo and cpu and i know for a fact that once you push the power button, it taks a few seconds for the cpu fan to start spinning, but i havent observed much of what happens after that with varying temperatures....

I built a system for a friend with the same mobo coupled with a E4500. At idle, I noticed the same thing. It's because the CPU run UNDER the temp threshold. No harm here. When heat comes up, the fan starts. It bugged me though. I installed the last version of EasyTune Pro from Gigabyte and configured it to make sure the fan never goes under 30 %.

Well the problem I have is that sometimes when the heat comes up, the fan doesn't restart as usual.

For example, I monitored it and the CPU temp was at 45C and the fan was still off.

I don't have your mobo so take my comment as .. general info

Check the BIOS, sometimes you can set the temperature at which the fan will turn on.
