I have an HP dv4000 laptop, got it just over a year ago. The laptop doesnt usually run hot, but sometimes it does and the cpu fan turns on as high as it can go. When it does that it sounds lilke its going to break or something. I dont have a * shaped screw driver so I can't open up the panel where the cpu is so I cant check it. Is there somehow I can get it replaced myself? I did get an extended warranty on it but I would rahter not go through them cuz they'll just have me send it in and then send me a refurbed laptop. Any help/advice? Thank you.

First, they usually do not send you a refurb laptop; they'll often just fix your laptop unless it is a serious problem.
Second, I would try blowing out the gunk in your laptop with compressed air. It sounds to me like your laptop has a noisy fan, and it only needs to go on high when your CPU use is high or ventilation is obstructed.

I would remove the HDD and send it in. What's the point of paying for a warranty if you don't use it? And, you can't assume they will send you a refurb'd laptop. Most of the time they fix and return.
