CPU fan mobo connection query?

I recently ordered 3 Panaflo fans for my new case and cpu. I didnt realise i had to order a separate 3 pin connector wire (for mb connection) or a 4 pin connector wire (for psu connection). Currently the fans have two bare wires coming out of them. I just ordered the appropriate connectors. My question while i am waiting is, can i connect the cpu fan to the motherboard with these two bare wires by wrapping the end of them around the motherboard fan connector? If so, which wire goes where? I know the motherboard has 3 prong connectors.

Thanks.

I'd only advise you to do that if you promise to take pictures and post the aftermath 🙂

Patience is a virtue, better wait for the connectors.

Yep I was in the same boat as the original poster, and not wanting to wait I converted a CD-ROM to soundcard audio cable to a two wire power connector. It was one of the ones with 4 female connectors in a plain black rectangular housing, it might come with Memorex drives. There are two connectors with wires up to them, the 3rd is unused, and the 4th has a wire. I just cut away the 3rd with an Exacto knife, taped up the now loose 4th to keep it out of the way, and plugged the fan into the motherboard header using connectors 1 and 2. The fit on the motherboard is perfect but on the Panaflo its kind of tight and a 3rd connector would be impossible. Which leads me to a question, can Panaflos report RPM with the 3rd pin? I've heard no and my own experiments seem to indicate this, but on a Panaflo tech pdf I found by Googling they said the 3rd can report data.

Thanks, yeah sounds like a good idea, should be recieving the connectors in the mail today.
Zephyr106, where i bought the fan from it said 'Fan speed monitoring not supported' in panaflo fans. I'll tell you when i connect them up today or tomorrow.
