So as the title says when I turn on my computer sometimes my CPU fan would not start until windows logo comes out.
It seems like the fan tries to start but not enough power or something.
Moves a little but won't start fully.
and once it hits the Windows logo it starts to run.
Is this normal? or does my mobo have a problem?
And is it bad for the CPU?

My board is Gigabyte P35-DS3P
and my CPU is Q6600
currently using stock cooler because I'm waiting for my new fan to arrive.

any feed back will help.
Thanks.

The stock cooler is a 4 pin PWM fan. It is temp controled and it will only spin up if its required due to heat. The issue that your seeing is normal behavior for the Stock intel cooler and most motherboards.

However, there should be a setting in the bios where you can set the fan to ran manually at full speed everytime. Which of course, is unnecessary not to mention the noise! So I'll say leave it as it is unless you are having thermal related problems. In addition, EasyTune provides the same fan control and customizations.

if youre really paranoid, u can connect the cpu fan header directly into the power supply and it'll turn on once ur pc is on..

would it still do the same with Zalman 9700?
Starting late?

and one question that is not really related to this but I checked out thermal grease applying for Quad
and it only showed the line down the CPU.
I don't need to spread it out over the top of CPU???

The Zalman uses a 110mm fan. I wouldn't run that fan through the CPU fan header on the MB. I'd run it off power from a power supply line.
And "no", if you run from a PS line it won't be controlled by the MB.

You want to avoid heavy loads on the MB header circuit. The Zalman fan is larger than the stock Intel unit.
You're safer (not burning out the MB CPU/fan header), using a PS line to power the Zalman HS/fan.
Besides that, the Zalman has the "Fan Mate 2" to controll the fan speed. You don't need the MB controlling it.

The pressure of the heatsink will spread it for you. Just make sure you get all four pins on the heatsink locked into the motherboard.

Beware though, most mobo has a RPM sensor for the cpu fan and will not let you start the system unless it senses the fan rpm. Of course, there is a setting in the bios to disable this.

It's a whole lot easier to let the MB header control the fan speed....makes for a quieter/cooler CPU than a Fanmate controller set on medium for instance.

I've hooked up dozens of 120mm fans on many different computers, directly to the MB.....not a single problem. You usually can find the max current draw spec listed somewhere. I doubt you'll find a single instance of that Zalman fan burning up any modern MB however.
