CPU fan connecter has 3 holes

The fan that came with my scythe infinity has a 3 pin connector attached to it. The plug on my Asus P5B Deluxe wifi for the cpu fan has 4 pins.

Is it safe to plug the fan into a chassis fan connector instead (they are 3 pin)? Should I order a new fan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

as said above, part of the 4 pin mobo header will seen to be suited to the 3-pin connector - IOW you can't put it on wrong without forcing. And one pin will be left dangling.

..bh.

i just had the same situation. i just plugged it into the 4 pin cpu spot, and left a pin uncovered. it works fine, and still tells you rpm and stuff
