I got an Alpha PAL 6035 for a 1.2 ghz TBird...I placed the fan with label side up...air is sucked off hs....
seems to me blowing would be better???

My cases has a 80mm fan right beside and slightly above the cpu pulling hot air out of the case and 80mm fan pulling air in the front of the case...

I know just check temps..well I am having other problems getting the system to post right now..so I thought I would get people's opinion

isn't it more efficent if the air is blowing on the Heat sink?

just my POv

case fan in the back show blow out, while those in front should suck in.. at least that's the classic way to do it.. but generally hot air rises.. so the best way to expel heat is to have a fan blow UP!

Blowing onto the CPU guarantees a certain amount of air flow over the processor... however in your situation with a big fan right above the CPU pulling air out this might just disturb the air flows enought that no air will reach the CPU (well, not NO AIR, but not the amount of air you'd expect)... If I were you I'd start with the CPU fan blowing onto the heatsink, if temperatures seem too high flip it around and see if it makes any difference.

BTW... I assume (if you're having problems with POST) that you're overclocking... if so, one place many people overlook is memory... it's just as important to keep the RAM cool as it is the CPUs!

Alpha has always recommended Sucking away from the heatsink. There is a proper flow and blowing does not allow the fins to leech the heat off, as sucking does. :)

"Sucking" will probably be more efficient because you are trying to remove heat right? Hmmm not sure if that's the right way but it works well enough for me

The method I use is to have the fans on back top suck this will suck the hot air out of the computer. The fans on the front bottom will blow, this blows cool air in the computer. Heat rises, cool sinks, remember that.

He's not asking about case fans, but the way the fan on the Alpha heatsink should be mounted.

Well it all depends on what man likes. I personally like getting blowed. When she is blowing as opposed to sucking i usually reach my...Uhhh...Wait a damn minute...We're talking about fans and not...Ah shoot! My bad! LOL! :)

Blowing may also increase overall board temp as that hot air runs off on to the surrounding components.

I have found that it work better if my Pal 6035 works better if it blows but I think the reason for this is I have two blow holes on the side of my case that blow right onto my mobo.

Thanks everyone.

Escalade..I am not o/cing yet..I just setup the system....I can not get to the bios on the Abit to try o/c.

Compuwiz1..thanks agian..saying that alot lately...I will leave it to "suck" and see what the temps do.
Antec SX830 comes with 2 fans set in the back to remove heat from the case...I moved one to the front to get cool air in...and left one near top to remove heat from the case.
Both fans in theback are set in position at the level of the cpu...one slightly above and one slightly below. Doubt it makes a difference which slot the fan is in.

Informant X...that was hilarious...
