cpu fan adaptor

I posted this on another firum and thought I would post here too.
HI
I have a very old pc that uses a amd thunderbird cpu. I built it in 2001.
The fan on the cpu is a 60 mm fan and is so loud I can hear it when I take my hearing aids out! LOL
I replaced the original fan with a new one and the new one is just as loud.

Is there a adaptor that I can use to mount a 80 mm or 90 or 120 mm fan on the cpu cooler?
The cpu is normally running at 1200 mhz and every so often I bump it up to 1333 mhz and need some extra cooling too.

Is it possible to buy a adaptor and use a larger fan? I already have 89 and 90 mm fans that move as much air as the 60 mm fan.
Thanks

HI
Thanks for the help!!!!
Now I can get a fan that will be quiet! I'll match the air flow on the new one to the old fan air flow.
After that I can use the pc to help do the research and then buy new parts to build new!
When I built the old pc in 2001 I uses a Antec full tower with four 80 mm fans to move air through the case. They are still quiet. The cpu cooler is made by Tysol and screams like a siren and wakes up everyone within 50 feet including the neighbors! LOL
Once again,,
Thanks!

You must be deaf already.

One of my first higher end cases was an Antec 1080AMG, which came with a TruePower 430W. Quiet PSU, noisy case fans. Well, at the time it didn't seem noisy but that was before I "discovered" 120mm fans.

Something to consider - using one of these adapters between a fan and heatsink will give you diminishing returns i.e. a fan at the same rated CFM will not perform as well. You'll be getting some blowback from the adapter.

It won't be life threatening or anything - I just want you to know that it's a possibility.
