CPU Difference Question

Hey guys, I was offered a 4000+ Clawhammer today by someone who used it only about 10 seconds and it didn't work with his ram but anyway he is willing to sell me the 4000+ with a ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu LED 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118119) for 400 bucks total. I think i can overclock it to about 3 ghz from 2.4ghz.

I can also just buy a 3200+ venice and i could probably overclock that from 2.0 to about 2.3 or 2.4ghz.

I might be wrong with these numbers. I am a newbie to this.

My question is is it worth the 200 dollar price difference to get what the guy is offering or would it not give me too much of a performance boost?

There's not a chance in hell you'll get 3.0 Ghz outta a 4000+ CH.
If you're lucky, you might get 2.6 or 2.7, but the CH cores never OC well.

With a Venice 3200+, you will actually likely get a higher OC than with the CH 4000+.
At least you'll hit 2.5 Ghz, possibly up to 2.8 depending on how good your mobo is & how lucky you get.

The 4000+ of any core = not worth it, sorry.

Actually I would say your 2.4ghz 4000+ to 3ghz is a dream and very unlikely...

being as that...i think the 3200+ venice will clock much higher then 2.3-2.4ghz...I think you could get closer to 2.6ghz...

Now figure your 4000+ clawhammer will be like most FX55's oof that time that hit 2.8ghz on air but not 3ghz without more exotic cooling....

Now if it is the 90nm rev 4000+ claw 9not the 130nm one) then it is a screamin deal. The 1mb cache will help in gaming but if you do other things with it and you get the venice to 2.6-2.7ghz range then heck yes the 200 dollars extra is not worth it...If 90nm get it...that may do closer to 3ghz though I wouldn't count on it...

Kind of like the FX55 90nm...very rare to find but there are a few listings for them at pricewatch...just using the new san Diego cores....

for 200mhz and 512kb more of cache??? No...I would get the 4000+ clawhammer then...i haven't seen enough 3700+ SD's hitting that high anyways in OCs....

The sweet zone is the 3200+'s for person already reserved to the idea of ocing...
