CPU Cost vs Intel 1000 Piece Price?

It looks like the E8xxx family of 45nm dual cores will be released on time on Jan 20th. According to pricing info I've seen the E8400 is $183 at 1000 lots. The only comparable CPU I could find is the E6850 (3GHz, 1333 FSB) and it's ~$280 retail.

So what is the likely E8400 retail?
When will it show at retail, Jan 20th or later?
Who will carry it, Newegg?

Thanks

Found an answer to the primary question, cost:

According to this Price Matrix (scroll down)
the E8400 is equivalent cost wise to the E6750, good news.

when the E6550 was released (it was rigth after the July Pricecuts) i got mine at Fry's for 177$ when the MSRP was 163$ i think. so the difference isnt that big unless supply is very low (see 8800GT's price).

in retrospect, i should've added 20$ and got the E6750. But thats just my stupidity.

Profound!!!

An E8xxx is not a commodity like oil, gold or copper. E8xxx's have artificial prices set by Intel, one has only to track the past prices of similar Intel CPU's. Their are rarely shortages for true supply/demand price swings.

Not really, All you have to do is look at the 8800GT. MSRP (is this correct?) was about $220, but all major review sites where touting the fact that it preformed near the $600 8800 GTX and is a few cases above it. So what happened to the price? Go ahead and look them up, I believe the cheapest 512MB card is for like $260 or so.

Penryn will probably look much the same, except I believe Intel has a much better manufacturing process then nVidia and will probably be able to meet demand (keeping prices lower)

You are obviously new to the pc components world. And Newegg always price gouges more than others for newly introduced pc components.
