Hi folks!

Any suggestions for CPU cooling (no watercooling) for a quad core (Q9550) in an Antec 900 with a P5E3-Premium board?

Thermaltake?
Zalman?

While I don't plan to overclock initially, I may later on...

Tell me your thoughts and recommendations!

Xigmatek or OCZ if you intend on OCing.

If you don't really care to OC, grab yourself a huge ass Scythe Ninja 2 and run that bitch passive.

Sidewinder... A.OK

And I agree with RRR, however, if you get a Thermalright, you won't be able to have a fan in the side vent, unless you mount the HSF upwards toward the 200mm.
Another good choice is the Noctua NH-U12P. I've personally owned both the Thermalright and Zalman CNPS9700 and I can tell you the Thermalright is better by, not just a mile, but maybe a marathon or two. Especially for a quad=core.

Depends on how much you want to spend as well,... the Xigmatek S1283 or OCZ Vendetta 2 are very very close in performance (within 1-2 degrees) to the Thermalright TRUE with a fan actually included, less than half the price generally for each of those,... ~$30 compared to ~$60 plus a fan

If you want to use the side fan, then a 92 mm hsf combo would be something to think about, the artic freezer 7 pro or the xigmatek SD-964 would be considerations,.. they won't perform quite as well since they are similar tower designs, just somewhat smaller and smaller fan. Though the side fan will help overall system cooling,... really not needed in most situations though unless you are doing multi graphics cards, raid arrays and such all at the same time, even then,...

I have the Antec 900 and an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I'm not keen on the combination. It's noisy and not as effective as the bigger coolers. You'd probably be better off going for a CPU cooler that natively accepts a 120mm fan (generally higher CFM and lower noise) over a 92mm fan set-up. As PCTC2 says above, you'll prob not be able to use the Antec 900's side fan with some of the bigger tower CPU coolers, given the minimal clearance.

Google for reviews of CPU coolers. There are some good ones about, a few of which have been linked here. The direct heatpipe coolers seem good, but I'm thinking of upgrading to the Thermalright HR-01 Plus which still appears to be relatively top-notch when used with the right fan.
