So it seems that my CPU cooler seems to be stopping according to CPUID HW monitor. It seemed that when my core went from .98volts under power saving up to 1.34 volts under load that it happened. I had a random freeze earlier, then I noticed that the fan had problems. Its an AMD phenom II 955 BE, 3.2ghz. How would I troubleshoot this? NOTHING in BIOS is changed, from a ga-ma770t-ud3p gigabyte mobo.

It keeps doing it...I know its not supposed to happen, just started today, has run a few days fine. Suggestions? Just keep an eye on it? Its the stock cooler BTW nothing OC'd, nothing in the BIOS at all changed.

Let's just be clear here, your fan isn't making any weird noises, right? it isn't actually mechanically broken? it's just kinda spinning down, and then you get some kind of alert? or how are you noticing that the fan stops spinning? and if it stops spinning, does it start up again all by itself?

I would guess something to do with cool'&'quiet. You could try dissabling any smart fan speed-type options in your BIOS, or you could try dissabling C&Q... But do you really want to? I mean, if the fan stops spinning because your CPU temp. is low enough that it doesn't need to spin anymore, isn't that a good thing?

Oh. sorry, just read through your post again and noticed your random freeze problem...Yeah, that maybe more serious than just C&Q spinning down your fan...

No random noises, and noticed the 0rpm drop monitoring the CPUID HW monitor program. Just momentary lapses, I ran 3dmark06 3 times in a row with itunes in the background, wanted to strain it a tad and it didnt flinch, so not sure what the deal is. Temps got to around 55c on CPU and 69c on my GPU, a 5850, so Im well within specs, hottest I have seen either after an hour straight of gaming was 57c on cpu and 74c on gpu.
