hey forum I am looking for a cpu cooler that hits several points, I've been out of the scene for awhile so I could use some advice.

I have a i7 920, running at 3.44ghz

I want it to be quite and also be no more then 30 dollars.

I remember at the time that the ac64 freezer was good, as well as the 212+ cooler.

thanks for your help

If you want a good blend of cooling and low noise I recommend checking out SPCR. They have a list of recommended heatsinks rated by quality. The prices listed may not be accurate, so if you see one that is out of your price range a quick search wouldn't hurt. It's probably important to read the review summaries as well, since some heatsinks are high quality but come with a stock fan that some may consider noisy.

Off the top of my head I'd recommend the $30 Xigmatek SD1283, reviewed by SPCR here.

A bit of a pricer option is the Scythe Mugen 2, which will set you back an additional $10 but ships with an exceptionally quiet stock fan. Part of this depends on how sensitive to noise you are; the SD1283 would probably be fine, but if you later decided to buy a quieter replacement fan, then the Mugen is probably less hassle and would in total cost around the same.
