CPU compatibility question.

I have a Pavilion a1000y with an Asus motherboard (PTGV-LA) that is socket 775. The HP website shows it as compatible with P4 6xx series, P4HT series, and Celeron D series (currently in the system). I am curious whether this system would be able to run with a C2D, say the e2160 or maybe e4300. Is there any way to determine this without just purchasing the cpu and trying it out?

It does not support C2D/Petium E21xx. It's just a too old machine.

Intel 915 chipset does not support Core 2.
