CPU/Case Stand for floor?

I would like to get the CPU off my desk, but I don't want it directly on the floor where it will draw in hair and all sorts of other junk from the carpet.

Is anyone using a nice CPU stand? I want something that won't resonate (create added noise). The further off the floor, the better. I see some of the CPU stands at Staples put your computer <2" off the floor...which sort of defeats the point.

I use a pair of Rubbermaid footstools (the new gunmetal gray color).

Being fairly soft plastic, they don't resonate or transmit vibes. Inexpensive too. I got mine at WalMart in the household plastics section (waste baskets, hampers, etc.). I couldn't find any real computer stand that would get it high enough off the floor for me - there are plenty that would just get it off the carpet - the 3M one is nice for that plus it has wheels.

CPU stand? You talking about them motherboard standoffs?

The central processing unit is not the only part of the computer....no one here refers to the computer as JUST the CPU. The only person I remember who referred to the case as the CPU was my CompSci teacher during senior year of high school who had no prior experience in programming...

You are right -- what I really want is a case stand, not a CPU stand. However, "CPU stand" is how these products are marketed. Search OfficeDepot.com, Staples.com, BestBuy.com, Amazon.com, and basically any other computer retailer and you will see what I mean.

Good call on the Rubbermaid footstools. Check out your nearest walmart, target, whatever, and look in the storage section.

You could also build your own out of a couple of 2x4's and some plywood. All we're really talking about is a shoe shine box.

For the mid-towers at home that are on carpet (Sonata I and P180B), we use two granite tiles (12" X12" or 13" X 13", I do not remember) butted up to each other to isolate the PC's from the carpet. It looks good and works for us. However, this system will not work for you as it is only ~3/8" above the carpet.
