CPU... can it be partially damaged???

Okay, I keep getting a message about my cpu everytime i boot... and also it won't restart the computer on it's own, it hangs at the splash screen. Welp, the system is nearly identical to what it use to be before i swapped the components back. The only thing I can think of is that the processor is functioning, but maybe damaged a bit... I've reseated this Duron over ten times, and since I put it back in the KT133A I can't change much in my bios without it not posting... I think it's because when I change the bus, the multiplier is locked now... but even if I don't do that, I can't make the changes I want in my bios for 4X agp etc and get it to post...

please, some help

Do you have another cpu to test and see if it is infact the cpu?

actaully, yes, i have a 1.4 tbird i just got that's in my other system... but i'm not too thrilled at reseating my new baby...

instead of that then are there dipswitches you can use to turn the bus speed back down. I had that same problem but i just turned down the fbs so i would post.
