CPU and RAM advice please

envy me

Golden Member

I am building a new machine as my previous one has become quite unstable.

So far I have the following eqipment:

Thermaltake Armor Case
Hiper Type-R 580w PSU
DFI Lanparty NF4-SLI-DR Expert mobo
EVGA 7800GT (256)

I also have a Venice 3000 which I plan on upgrading but am not sure whether to get a dual core x2 or an opteron. Any suggestions?

As for Ram.. this is kind of a biggie for me. I own 2x512 OCZ VX PC3200 ram... I wanted to know whether you guys think I should use it or upgrade to better RAM? Also would it be possible for me to get 2 (2x1 gig) = 4 gigs running stable with the configuration. I have read that running 4 chips will not be possible in 1T mode. Can anyone give me some advice on this and let me know what you think my best option would be. Also money is not really an option for the cpu or ram so whatever would be best would be good. I plan on using this machine for everything: web design, photoshop/3dS, gaming.

Thanks

l would go with a dual core cpu @ 2 gig or over clock each core , the ram you have is plenty fast enough , looking at far cry in 64 bit mode its the cpu you might want to upgrade the most , lm on an AMD 4400+ dual @ 2.2 each core , it CRANKS , 2 gig pc3200 ram , 7800gtx bla bla bla, l run 2 x 1 gig sticks of ram , it wouldnt boot with 3 gig so l left it at 2 for now. Your upgrade looks pretty sweet so far....
