Im looking to upgrade from my A7V-600X and XP2600+. $200 is the absolute max. Was thinking a 3100+ Paris Sempy.... Just lookin for some ideas.

good thought but probably sticking with the 6600gt which is a damn agp. Just picked up battlefield 2 which runs pretty well but I believe my processor holds me back a little on that and CS:S. So would like to start there and then do the vid card later.

How bout this
MSI "K8N Neo4-F" http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/Vi...esc.asp?description=13-130-491R&depa=0

A little over budget but I think it would really help buy me some time before upgrading again.

If you threw a 6800 Ultra in your PC you'd realize what's been holding you back 😉

That board won't work if you have an AGP video card, you'll need an nforce 3 based board for AGP, or VIA based(yuck).

Ohhh whoa guys. Noo nooo. Get a 939 pin mobo with and amd 64 3000+! can't go wrong there. Can get combo for like 200.00. Look at tigerdirect they have good prices on combo's sometimes. Good luck.. only thing is.. i sure hope u have a pci-e video card

Nope have a AGP 6600GT and Id like to stick with that. And crap the board I looked into was PCI.... back to the drawing board. And it looks like all AGP boards are crap and PCI Express is the choice. Please tell me someone knows of a 939 with AGP.

Why not overclock your chip (if it's a barton)? Overclock it to ~2.2 ghz and that's equivalent to about an XP 3200+
If you're chip doesn't overclock that high, get a Barton 2500+ XP mobile and overclock it to 2.2 ghz. They go for 85$

I mean, is an AMD XP64 3000+ that much faster than an XP 3200+?

I think most AGP solutions are socket 754... the possibilities for upgrading those boards aren't that great. In my opinion, you should just hold on to your current system and when you're ready for a major cpu upgrade, upgrade the video card at the same time. I wouldn't spend 200$ on a lateral upgrade that doesn't have much of a future (socket 754).

edit: the reason i say this is because I also have a 2600+ (geforce 6800 agp coming in) and considered upgrading to a 200$ amd64 package. This setup will hold me over for a year or two (and I'm running things at 1680x1050). I just really think that a person won't see much of a performance gain by going to AMD64 3000+ when they can hit 3000+ speeds on their non-64 setup.

DFI makes a 939-Pin/AGP board called the NF3 Ultra-D; just came out, and it goes for about $125.

I love the Fry's budget specials in my area; AMD 3000+ OEM w/ a decent ECS motherboard for $139.99. When you're going 754-Pin, might as well make it dirt cheap and save your money for a later upgrade.

Went with a 3000+ Venice and a Epox EP-9NDA3J for $240 shipped. This way I have the 939 and a good OC cpu. What I will do in the future is get myself a better socket A motherboard and really see what this 2600+ can do. This mobo is junk, I have it running around 2.1 at the moment.
