i'm looking for a good bang for the buck mobo/cpu combo to use in a test box that will run some virtual servers.

Looking for a ddr2 based mobo. I have no cpu brand preference.

Still with DDR2? Then look at a DDR2 AM2+/AM3 mobo, and a Phenom II X4 quad-core. (Or to save money, an Athlon II X4.)

Ram is soo cheap now. Might be a great time to jump to a DDR3 based system.

Yeah with the cost of 4gb DDR3 being so low, it won't really show in the total cost - wouldn't invest in a DDR2 platform right now..

Yea no matter the RAM choice go AMD for bang for the buck. Most, if not all, desktop chips from AMD support VM.

But go DDR3 for newwer 8xx chipsets and also DDR3 is cheaper now.

Microcenter has a Mobo/CPU combo for less than $100 (free mobo basically) for AMD chips.
