CPU and Memory Clock

I've got my 1.1GHz T-Bird on an 8KHA oc'd to 1.32GHz. What's the connection between cpu clock and memory clock? When you change one, the other changes. Is it just this mobo or are they all like that? I'd like an explanation of the interaction.

Thanks!

SDRAM (which DDR is architecturally based upon) stands for Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.
Synchronous in this case indicates that the memory is intended to run at the same bus speed as the system; in some cases you can vary system and memory bus speeds, but it is usually more stable to run the memory at the same speed simply because that is what it was designed to do.
