K guys, and gals. I've got a question for you. I'm still new at this computer making business. I've already built my computer, and it's VERY nice I must say, but that's beside the point. I'm now building a computer for my girlfriend. When I purchased my CPU I purchased the heatsink sperately. She doesn't need a real expensise computer, so I want to buy the AthlonXP 1700+ for her. I can't find a heatsink to go with it, so I'm looking at buying her this one:

Thermaltake VOLCANO 5. Heatsink + Ballbearing Fan Model A1110 Retail This fan is designed for AMD XP1700+, INTEL PIII 1.13GHz & TUALATIN, up to 2.0GHz.*).

As you can see they say it's made for that CPU. It only costs like $5 which is perfect. I'm wondering...will it do the job? Keep the CPU cooled enough. If not, I have another propsal. I too have the Athlon XP 1700+ overclocked to 1.9GHz. What I'm wondering is, if that $5 heatsink won't work for her. Can I buy the AthlonXP 2400+ with a heatsink combo. Can I use my heatsink that I already have with my 1700+ and give her the heatsink that comes with the 2000+? I would rather give her the 1700+ heatsink cause the one I bought is MUCH better than what comes with the 2000+.

I hope all this wasn't too confusing (I know I can be confusing at times). If anyone can just drop me a line I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I will be assuming your girlfriend will not be using the comp for demanding things such as big ga,es and apps. If that is the case, your would be fine with the HSF you are looking at.

it will cool it fine even if it at 100% usage for 5 years, problem is though, it may run in the 50 - 60C range as normal usage. but it will work fine.

I bought THIS for my new 1700+, and it works great (cpu is at 46C at full load). It's fairly quiet, but you can hear it from outside the case. What can you expect for the price, though?

46 huh? Wow, I'm running my 1700+ on the Asus A7N8X deluxe with the AlphaPal 8045 and I have the CPU overclocked to 1.9 and the temp is ONLY 36C most of the time. In fact, I have NEVER seen it over 40C it's crazy. Oh well, just thought I would share that fact with yall. Thanks.
