CPU and GC for Workstation (Triple Monitor)

Hello,

since I have quit gaming my knowledge about building Gaming PCs is quite useless and now I feel kind of helpless when building a Workstation.
I am not a high super video/photo editor or 3D rendering specialist. I'm just curious about what's the best hardware to build a Workstation. First I looked after an iMac 5K which with my personal preferences would cost €3.200, or a Mac Pro.
What I want is a computer capable of powering 3 monitors (maybe 4). I am looking for 4K monitors when the become a little cheaper than they are now.
Then I found out an iMac is best left alone because in looks crappy with 2 separate monitors and the Mac Pro is not even close to high end for that price!
So I was asking myself what about a custom PC?!
That's when I found myself stranded. I have no idea how many CPU cores are optimal for applications from Adobe and what graphics card I should consider. All I know is that 6-8 cores are great for core/speed ratio and that I need a GC with more than 6-8GB of VRAM to power 3 4K displays.

Am I right with that? Is there a better option?
As I said I'm not planning to build one yet but I'm curious about your opinions!

Thank you

So, what do you want to do with this Workstation?

Depends what you're working on, but Photoshop has shown surpising improvements with Skylake and Windows 10.

Not necessarily. The pixels themselves are only 11520x2160x4 bytes per pixel ~= 100MB. Quadruple-buffer it and it's still under 1GB. Gigabytes of VRAM are mainly needed for game textures.

The problem is mainly having enough outputs with enough bandwidth for 3 4K monitors. a GTX 950 might do it, but I'm not entirely sure. A 750 or 750ti combined with the CPU graphics might also do it.

Could you please answer [thread=80121]these questions[/thread] so we can narrow down your best options?
