CPU affinity for Folding

When I recently switched over to Windows -bigadv WUs my frame times were higher than they had been with Linux/VM until I changed the configuration option to disable CPU affinity on all clients. My GPU points seem to have gone up slightly.

If you are not already running with CPU affinity disabled I would recommend trying it to see if your ppd might also increase.

It also affected my bigadv times, so should work for regular SMP as well.

Although I'm not sure if it will do anything if only running 1 client, I'd say it's worth a try.

Quote from SMP client config:
Disable CPU affinity lock (no/yes) [no]?
1. So we want to answer "yes" to this question?

2. And in the GPU "Configure...", we should add a 'check' to "Do NOT lock cores to specific CPU

3. Can we Ctrl+C the SMP client and run config without losing the WU? I am at 58% and don't want to lose the work done! I think I'll wait!

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. I stopped & restarted my current bigadv WU with no problem. If you're going to wait until your bigadv finishes, then you should also wait for the GPU as I found changing only 1 is not beneficial.

OK, I got it changed.

It could be this WU but, Early results look like 2-3 minutes better TPF for SMP!!

Can't tell for GPU, but it doesn't look worse at least.

Those 2-3 minutes translates to 1,200 - 1,700 ppd 🙂

So instead of ~18,000 ppd I am now showing 19,400 ppd!

Thanks go to theAnimal

Edit: PS: Stopped the client at 8% and it restarted no problem. This is probably the best thing about switching back to Windows 😀
