CPU a bottleneck for my Video Card?

I was wondering if my CPU is going to bottleneck my video card?

2 cards that I might chose to upgrade to: X1950Pro or the X1950XT both are AGP8X.

System: Mother Board - Asus K8N socket 754
Processor - Athlon64 3200+
Video Card - 5200FX
Memory - 1.25GB of ram
Sound Card - Audigy

Well its a 754, so its gotta be pretty old. If its an Athlon, I would say no, especially at resolutions above 1280x1024. If its a Sempron, an upgrade would probably be in order.

Let me jump on this thread since my question is basically the same. I have an:

Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2Ghz Mobile
AGP8x Radeon X850XT (have used many drivers with exact same results/using Omega now)
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20"@ 1600x1200 via DVI (no 2nd monitor)
Albatron KX18DS / Socket A (updated drivers and bios)
Windows XP Pro (defragged/antivir/antispy/cleanup weekly)

This card is having trouble with simple 2D stock trading Java charts and quotes (quotes and charts freeze during times of busy trading). The charts are Java and all 2D...nothing complicated. Will the X1950Pro or the X1950XT mezzmorized mentioned (or even a 7900GS) be an upgrade to possibly fix this? These cards are 2560 x 1600 max so maybe they'll do the trick assuming you don't blame the problem on the CPU/board.

I wondered if the CPU was the bottleneck as well, but the card handles 1280x1024 somewhat better. Unfortunately I need more pixels to fit in all the information I need for trading.

Thanks for any response. It's either this or a new computer. I guess I could buy a card first and return it if it doesn't work.

Ok fellas going to buy the GeCube X1950XT for my system. street carp I will let you know how it turns out. Also Eghck let me know if you want to sell that processor.., this computer is going to my brother next year and would love to give it to him with that processor in this system. Should have the video card in by Wednsday then I'll let you know if
the upgrade was worth it.

People from a trading forum think my problem is not a GPU problem since quotes are coming in 2D and it's not using a graphic intensive program. Any basic video card is supposed to be able to handle it. My problem may be my system or even the internet connection.

Anyway, mezzmorized, I think you are going to love that card. I don't think there's anything better now for AGP. So long as you have the room in your case and enough PSU.

Hey street carp I agree. PSU is a Cooler Master 600W. Case is big enough. I'll give benchmarks to compare the 5200 FX to the X1950XT and give the results. This should be Wedn. or Thur.
