i ran dvd info pro freeware and come to find out my sony (DRU500A) dvd+-RW drive has CPRM authenticate. I looked it up as i've read about it before and remembering how bad it was and sure enough its that anti-piracy thing. It was threatened that it was going to go into hard drives and the like to prevent people from making copies of mp3's and other files.

i have the sony dru-500A. I really don't like CPRM and if i would have known this drive had it i wouldn't have bought it. I paid good money for it too now i'm kind of pissed. I had problems making copies of programs before and with this drive i cannot make multisession disks.

what could you suggest i do? i kind of know what i want to do but wiser feedback is welcomed.

i'm looking at the pioneer 108XL for 145 about. Also thinking of maybe getting just the 108 instead.

Did you check www.DVDRHelp.com to see if there is a hacked firmware or other way to disable the CPRM?

For other burners, NEC and Pioneer are both popular and there have been several recent "Which DVD?" threads -- if you want to read a bunch of opinions try search "DVD".
