From today, anyone downloading a new experiment from climateprediction.net will download an extended version of the experiment, which adds a fully interactive sulphur cycle to the model, to investigate the so-called 'global dimming' effect. People whose computer spec. (available memory or speed) is not sufficient for this experiment will continue to run the standard, 3 phase experiment. We expect this experiment to continue until early next year.

The new model have 5 phases compared to the normal having 3, needs 1.2GB disk-space, uses 65MB memory, and each "trickle" gives AFAIK 141.775 Cobblestones, this is 50% more per trickle so would expect each trickle uses 50% longer also...

But, while the "normal" model has nearly a years deadline, the sulphur-cycle-model have only 5-months-deadline. Even the fastest computers will use over a month on a full model, and the majority will probably use atleast 2 months...

Anyway, if you aren't already running CPDN/BOINC and wants to help out, creat an account at http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/create_account_form.php
and preferably afterwards join the team at
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=4

If you're already running CPDN/BOINC, you'll most likely download the new model next time you're asking for work...

"Cool"? Yes, in one way. ;)
CPDN considers - crunches - global warming, doesn't it? ;)

Thanks for the info, Rattledagger, and for the "LOL", amdxborg! :D
