Cox Communications, a major U.S. cable operator, is informing many customers of its high-speed Internet access service that their monthly fee will increase by $5 per month, company representatives confirmed Friday.

My DSL provider, NorthState Communications just sent a letter to inform me that they're cutting the price by $10 a month

Cox is sloooowly installing digital cable in the neighborhoods around me. Cox estimates that it will be October before my street has the option to utilize their cable modem service.

However, Verizon is installing equipment 300 feet from my house that will allow me to get DSL starting in late July.

Hmmm....

Cox @ $35.00 a month (with my own modem)

or,

Verizon DSL @ $39.99 a month

I think Verizon is starting to look attractive.

Don't fall for it. If you want DSL, get it from an ISP. Trusting Verizon as your ISP is the worst thing you can do.

I wouldn't mind the $5 increase if they would just give me more upload speed. They upped our d/l to 1.5mbs, but 128k upload is pathetic; at least give us 384k. But until we get some good competition here in southern nevada, I'm at the mercy of Cox.
