Sorry for any of you who share Cox cable service with me. There is major packet loss on the Palos Verdes and Orange Country routers.

The routers in question are 68.4.15.238 and 68.4.15.242 Anyone should be able to ping them and see packet loss.

If you live in these areas, you can call 310 377-1800 to ask a level 1 tech to help you do a trace route. I got my ticket elevated to a level 2 tech, so lets hope they fix these regional routers soon.

See also http://www.dslreports.com/badrouters/68.4.15.242 and http://www.dslreports.com/badrouters/68.4.15.238 to see the test results of our fellow sufferers.

If you're getting 50% packet loss, I'm surprised you can browse the web (if it's a constant problem, not periodically dropping half of them). When Cox was part of @Home, I was doing your Tier2 tech support. If someone is getting that kind of connection drop, the first thing people should do is call the company -not come to AT to ask what's wrong with their internet or hope to find a thread about what's going on.

I had the same problem from Cox here in Vegas. Alot of bitching over the phone to the right people will get the issue fixed but it will take some time.

FFM -

To quote my original post: "I got my ticket elevated to a level 2 tech, so lets hope they fix these regional routers soon."

So I have done as much as I can do from my end. I was simply wondering if anyone else in the OC area was experiencing a similar problem.

Question: do you know if they consider "intermittent" packet loss problems to be an issue that actually needs fixing?

What they do is have you ping your gateway. No other ping destination counts. If you get *any* packetloss, the first thing they should do is check for known network issues in the area. If there aren't any, they schedule a tech to come out to your house and work from your house backwards to find the problem.

What's REALLY funny is that the Cox self-install kit used to be sold (and printed right on the freakin box) as "Cox in a Box: Self Install Kit"

Yea, they had me ping my gateway, and there was zero packet loss. But my internet barely works right now, so I know there is a problem. Also, when I do a trace route from my computer to any other computer I get loss at one of two points: 68.4.15.238 or 68.4.15.242

So I am assuming that those are regional level routers of some kind that are downstream of my gateway. Do you know if my assumptions are correct?

Are you saying they will not believe I have a problem if my personal gateway doesnt have loss? :(

Happens to my connection with Cox everyday here in Louisiana. Sh!tty ass Cox. It works fine for a while, then like 50-90% packet loss for about 10-20 seconds (effectively killing the connection), then it comes back and works.

For a while Cox in the Hampton Roads, VA area would periodically simply shut down. My modem would lose activity, and my net would simply drop out...for 30 minutes at a time.

They never fixed it, and it went away.
