Sorry if this is a repeated question. Anyone have any exp out there doingon of the following?

1 Router w/Cox@Home If so, what are you using, how many comuters, and any issues you run into?

2 Proxy server setup on the main PC connected to the cable modem, dual NIC in that computer, 2nd NIC going to the switch and serving the network with net access

3 paying the extra 6 buks a computer to get each one its own ip addy. seeing how i have 10 computers at home, that doesnt sound cost effective!

LMK if u all have any input. Also, if anyone is using freesco with cox@home, input there would be most excellent!

Thanks in advance

Here is what i did:

I paid $100 for a p166 with 3gig hhd, 4meg vid card, 24x cdrom, floppy, 48 meg of ram and a 14" monitor. Put Freesco on the hdd and installed 3 nics and crossover cables.

One connects to my Rogers@home and the other 2 connect to my 2 pcs. Each one has its own ip generated by freesco. My printer is attached to the router. I use the freesco box as my router/firewall/web server/ print server. It works great.

For 10 computers, you're definatly going to need a router. Even if you wanted to go with sepperate IP's, Cox won't sell you that many. The limit varies from cable company to cable company, but 5, which I believe is Cox's limit, is the most any of them will give you.

Your best bet is to buy a router, like the Netgear RT314 for $19 going on now, or take an old 486 computer or better and use Freesco.
