She's been paying for 5mbps for the past few months, but has only been getting 256kbps. So she called today and they tried to blame it on her router... Then they blamed it on the wiring (doesn't that only apply to DSL?). THEN they refused to downgrade her service to 256kbps, but instead downgraded to 4mbps... WHICH MADE HER SPEED GO UP TO 666kbps.

 I assume there's nothing she can do. :|

Friend
Her roommate, in the green

Edit: They are in College Station, TX. For some reason Cox decided to only sell their services to Aggies.

I have a lawyer too. His name is Big Eddie.

Come on. Advising her to tell them she's going to sue Cox will only make people laugh. LOL

Of course there's nothing she can do. Cable ISP's don't GUARANTEE those speeds they advertise. They're SPEED CAPS, you fool! You CAN get UP TO that fast.

Connect the computer directly to the cable modem. Power cycle the modem then release/renew for a proper IP. Now check ipconfig for the default gateway IP address. Ping it. Preferrably constant ping which is "ping x.x.x.x -t" and then Ctrl-C to stop it. Let it run for a good 2 minutes or so.

If you have ping times higher than 100 or so or ANY packetloss, call Cox and tell them that you're experiencing latency to your gateway or packetloss to your gateway. That is the *only* thing cable ISP's are going to even BOTHER looking into a speed issue about. If your ping times are fine and you see no packetloss, too bad so sad. Don't try lying to the phone tech either. They'll send a tech out to your house and charge you $50 on your next bill if they don't find a problem and their time has been wasted.

I don't have Cox High Speed Internet anymore thanks to Hurricane Katrina!

What a godsend!

Glad I won't have to ever be with them again just wish we would of went to NJ, NY, or CT where FIOS will be and OOL is currently with their new tiers! I want my hands on that new 50 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload tier! Even if its $200 a month and you can use it its well worth that! Though hope its cheaper! Hold on baby we are catching up to the people overseas! Not real quickly sense its only in one small area of the US right now but still!

If not there at least VA! Where FIOS and all the other isps are ! Though FIOS seems to be the cheapest there with their nice 30 Mbps download and 5 Mbps tier for $79 a month I believe. Could be cheaper or a little more. Forgot.

Still better than nothing but I still love to get my hands on that 50 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload speed tier OOL is offering right now! Yes they are currently offering this right now OOL. They have other tiers but this tier alone is far more worth it in my opinion!

I know OOL has sorta a bad reputation right now with capping people if you use the upload for to long but I really don't want the upload. I mean sure I will like it but and would love to have 50 Mbps upload but I won't be using it constantly or anything like that. I love being able to have things get uploaded quicker than I can imagine though!
