Screw that. Get him fired or fire him. Report him or do whatever you have to do.

The term is insubordination and it is a terminable offense. Make that SOB learn that there are consequences to his actions and words. He can't keep using race as a crutch.

Sure, if he doesn't have enough influence or authority to get a co-worker to do a task (not sure if it was in the scope of the co-worker's job) then what makes you think that he will be taken seriously by his management?

I disagree. Bringing it to the HR dept will only exacerbate the issue. The best thing is to ignore the statement, not repeat it, and go to the GM (or other superior who might do something) to discuss how the coworker was uncooperative if you want to be proactive.

Yep, racial "tension" is the last thing that an HR department wants to deal with, they will run and hide and do everything in their power to make sure this situation doesn't explode. You know who loses that battle? You do, the white guy.

Sounds like you were trying to be his boss when you are his equal. Unless you are his boss or it was a group assignment then he doesn't have to help you do your work. If it was a group assignment or you are his boss then take up the fact that he is a lazy sob with your direct supervisor or else you will end up doing all the work.
