Coworker no longer wants to go to lunch with me cause I told him I bought a gun

Usually he'll ask me 4 or 5 times a week to go to lunch with him but last week I had an address written down on a paper that I left laying on the passenger seat. As we were going to lunch he asked me who the person on the address was. I just said I bought something from him and he jokingly asked if it was drugs. I said a gun and he just kind of dropped the subject and didn't say much afterwards. So this whole week he hasn't asked me if I wanted to go lunch with him nor has he spoken to me much either.. I did buy a gun but actually it was just an airsoft gun but I intentionally left out the airsoft part.

Gonna see how long he's going to avoid me.

Of course you're in CA. Around here, I get weird looks from my male coworkers for NOT owning a gun.

Edit: Here being NV.

Well, there is someone in the office who gets voted "Most likely to go Postal". Guess who it is in your office? 😉

Get used to it. People react weird when you tell them you are a Gun owner.

I've literally had guns for the past 3 years, but my friends didn't know about it.

As soon as they found out, they started distancing themselves from me and my GF. It was very frustrating, and I honestly think it was more about their lack of gun education then them really being afraid.

Once I educated them on what guns I had, and when I carry/don't carry, they felt more at ease.

It depends on where you live.

Should have said: "But don't worry I don't shoot people for being too nosy"

So, what kind of airsoft gun did you get?

I live in CA and have never once met anyone who owned a gun, not entirely sure how I'd react if someone told me they bought one. I'm sure I'd get used to it soon enough..then make fun of them for having a small peepee.

I'd probably do the same too. Although I'm not anti-gun, I do find most gun owners to have a fucked up sense of things. Better safe than sorry but the Airsoft part is pretty funny.

That's good, because based on your posts, I'd never want to associate with you in real life.

It sounds like you have a fucked up sense of things. Most of the gun owners I know are no different than anybody else. A few are off a bit, but they'd likely be off even if they'd never held a gun.

It's a cultural thing too, when you do anything that's completely out of the norm you're automatically going to be seen and labeled as a nonconformist.

e.g. owning a pet cow in your backyard, while there are some cultures where this is completely normal, if you were to suddenly announce to the world that you just bought a cow somewhere in California, you certainly would be looked at mighty strangely..

ive owned guns since i was a kid. daily carry is the normal for me. i walked into a subway one time with a couple friends, 2 of us were wearing our pistols in hip holsters. the cashier literally dropped to the floor and told us not to hurt him, he was calling the cops. lol. LOL.

when everything was finally calmed down and we were able to convince him we werent there to kill him, he explained that where he lived in CA if someone waled in your work wearing a gun someone was gonna die. he had only lived here in az for a couple weeks and we were the first people he ever saw carrying guns. was kind of funny afterward, especially him trying to explain the 911 call when they finally showed. they questioned us all after disarming us, but they didnt do anything beyond that.

I don't lose any sleep over people who want to distance themselves from me over something as stupid as this. Ignorant people suck regardless of the issue at hand.

As a Californian, I must ignorantly ask why you feel it necessary to carry pistols into a Subway..or anywhere in public for that matter? Is it for protection, or is it really just a style? If the former then I can't say I understand feeling threatened walking into a Subway, and as a Californian I don't see it being "cool" in any way.

I'm Asian and you don't see my carrying my samurai sword everywhere I go ;-)

It's crazy how different it is in other parts of the country. Owning a gun is such a mundane thing around here it's not even worth mentioning. I usually just assume everyone I meet has a gun somewhere, be it at home or in their coat pocket. Doesn't change my interactions with them one iota.

<---Does not own a gun.

Just the word gun can spook some people.

You probably have plenty of experience hearing about the small peepee jokes that are directed at you.

They did return your firearms, right?

bolded comment was just stupid...

as for why i carry a gun, i carry because i can. i do go out of my house without it, i sometimes dont carry it into a bank (which youre not supposed to do regardless =P). why was i carrying it that particular day? same reason as any other day... because i can. being a subway has no bearing on what you wear does it? it isnt a fashion accessory by any means either, im trained to use it, i have the temperament to be able to carry it and not use it in anger, and if i ever need it, there it is. its not a matter of feeling threatened at all, just a personal choice. and if i so desired, i could strap on my katana (and im not asian) as well and walk down the street. doesnt get nearly the looks that my brass hand and a half does tho.
