Cowboys stadium has record attendance of 105,121

WTF! On PTI tonite they said that thousands of people counted as being at the game never made it inside. Seems they bought tickets that didn't guarantee them admission.
The Cowboys had a pavilion set up outside the stadium where those with tickets who could not get in could watch the game on large screen televisions.
Yet the Cowboys counted them in their attendance figures.


So can the Jaguars count everyone who watches the game at TGI Fridays or Scores?
And will the game not be blacked out?

IIRC the pavilion is part of the "party pass" area. Those people had standing room only where they could watch the game but chose to watch out there.

I don't know specifically about the Cowboys stadium, but in soccer, attendance includes standing tickets also. Most of the lower divisions have stadiums where all-seaters aren't practical so it's normal to have no seats for a portion of the fans.

If that happened here, sure, they're part of the attendance even if they voluntarily decided not to use the standing room and watched the game on a TV at the stadium.

Right now the Big House certainly isn't #1 in attendance week to week, due to the construction of the luxury boxes.

edit: it's probably Tennessee, Ohio State, or Penn State.

And that's definitely only actual seating capacity. Week to week OSU averages over 105k, so that is likely standing room only and number of people in boxes. Those things likely get packed almost like sardines in the big games.

But yeah, I knew Ohio Stadium wasn't the biggest. Knew Michigan was bigger, hadn't realized Beaver was bigger. Don't know why.

But go Big 10! Highest seating capacities, and almost always with higher numbers too.

Yeah these are seating capacity numbers, I know PSU and Mich games usually have over 110-112k in attendance. Beaver is a simply a monster. The Big House is a nice big stadium, but being a bowl is really loses a lot. The upper decks at Beaver make it the monster that it is. The Shoe is a pretty nice stadium too, though. Oh, and Beaver is incredibly ugly.

Uh ... no they didn't. It was a clusterfuck in there and not everyone could fit. The crowd got rowdy when they weren't allowed inside.

UT was up to 107k a game in 2006, but the numbers dropped down to 102k in 2008. Not that surprising since that's when the economy started to collapse during the second half of 08. All the teams went down.

Capacity was up around 104,000 until recently.

FWIW, I recall one of the commentators during the Michigan/Notre Dame game saying that Michigan has lost the average attendance title only once since the '70s, but maybe the construction takes them down this year.

Sounds like what I would expect from a "college atmosphere" area, which is what I heard those tickets billed as. Lots of people took families in that section and were upset. Uhh, these aren't cheap family seats...

At any rate, that's kinda is irrelevant to if the pavilion was part of the party pass area. Pretty sure that's what they said when they showed the pavilion area on TV but I might be wrong.

edit: They may have over-sold that space. Some people weren't happy at all but what I heard was people upset at rowdy fans.

"I don't think you understand the purpose of the ticket. It's a ticket because it can get into the stadium"
